The coot is a water bird that you can recognize by its black feathers and white beak. They eat everything from aquatic plants to insects and small fish. During the breeding season, they can be quite aggressive and fiercely defend their territory. They build floating nests and both parents care for the young.

Coots live in many wetlands such as lakes, ponds and rivers, and adapt well, even in city parks. Some coots stay in the same place all year, while others migrate to warmer areas in the winter. They are fascinating to watch because of their versatility and behavior.

Enjoy watching.
