Belle Gibson is a former Australian wellness influencer who rose to international fame by claiming she had her terminal brain cancer had healed with healthy food and alternative therapies. She shared her story via social media, leading to the development of the popular app 'The Whole Pantry' and a cookbook of the same name. Her claims inspired many and strengthened her status within the wellness community.
In 2015, however, investigative journalists revealed that Gibson had never had cancer and that her health claims were completely unfounded. In addition, it turned out that she had not made promised charitable donations. As a result, in 2017, she was sentenced by the Australian court to a fine of 410,000 Australian dollars for misleading and deceptive conduct.
