Suddenly, the trackers signal a stop.
A whopper of a wild boar eating mushrooms can be seen between a bush opening.
A man immediately aims his blowgun at it and fires his poisonous arrow.
It's a hit.
Vincent, Michael and Chris look at each other with admiration.
Could they all aim so perfectly?
It takes about five minutes for the animal to stagger and eventually fall dead to the ground.A man walks over and immediately removes a large part of the animal that was hit by the arrow with a knife. They also take out the arrow. The carved part and the arrow are wrapped in a large sheet and carefully stored by the hunter who killed the animal.
You can see from the men that they are very happy with this valuable catch. After all, this well-behaved animal today ensures that the entire tribe gets through the day and night with a well-filled stomach. The felled boar is huge.
The other wild boars were not left.Wild boars, like most animals, simply don't feel sorry. Between them, the law of the fittest applies. That is actually also the case between the tribesmen. Although, as humans, they can also show sympathy.
The herd of wild boars just moved on and, in no time, disappeared among the green of the jungle.
The hunters lay the heavy animal on branches that they have tied together with lianas.
Two men carry the animal at the end of the improvised stretcher.
While following the wild boars, the men also stuck broken branches in the ground everywhere that show the way back to the village.
Along the way, one of them points to a bee nest high in a hollow tree trunk.
The sweet honey from these bees must be like a delicious dessert for them.
One of the men has taken on the task of climbing high up the tree to collect this honey.
To the anthropologists' surprise, the man simply climbs up the tree trunk with crooked feet and the strength of his arms.
You can clearly see that it is not the first time with him.His toes spread wide apart attest to his climbing skills.
In no time, he hangs under the bee's nest.
Meanwhile, some men have started a fire on the ground with dry moss and a rapidly rotating bamboo stick. Michael took a picture of it.It was amazing how quickly she managed to fan this fire on a patch of moss.A thick branch has wrapped another man with straw that they set fire to. As soon as they extinguish the flames, a thick plume of smoke is created. The honey collector quickly fetches the smoking stick on a vine and
keep the smoke right in front of the entrance to the bee hole. So the bees fly out angry and confused. While he is rooting in the hole with his bare hand and finally breaking off a few honeycombs that he sticks on his back, braided in a basket. He has gathered together a whole basket full.
Then he quickly sinks back down with the smoke directed at the bees.
But, of course, the man is stung by many bees. However, he does not seem to have a problem with that.
The hunters and adventurers have now moved a long way from the burrow. They have protected themselves against the bee stings. So they're not that keen on that after all.
Once on the ground, the honey collector quickly hands over the basket full of honeycombs while, chased by the bees, he runs to the nearby river.
He immediately jumps into the water and dives completely into it.So he had taken this river into account. And, in this way, get rid of the furious bees.
They stay above the water for a while in search of the man and eventually disappear back to their hole.
Just in time.Because the man showed up, visibly gasping for breath.
Meanwhile, a hunter has given everyone a piece of honeycomb and they are enjoying it.They eat the stuff with wax, including honey and larvae. You can see on their happy faces that they think it's a real treat. They take the surplus to the village.Because, as with everything, they also distribute their food fairly among everyone.
So Vincent, Michael and Chris were also allowed to enjoy this snack.
They had to put aside their Western aversion to do so. But understood, again, that it's better not to show their disgust about that. You simply don't refuse something that is offered so kindly. It could be seen as a disrespectful attitude. It's better to stay with them as friends than enemies.
For Westerners, they only realize now, staying with natives is quite an adjustment.
