The Oldest Cemetery in Paraguay
The Cemetery of La Recoleta is the oldest necropolis in Paraguay. Inaugurated in 1842, after the closure of the Convent of the Recollect Franciscans, it houses the tombs of the most important figures in Paraguayan history.
The first tomb dates back to 1857. Its resident is Corina Adelaida Lynch, the second daughter of the Paraguayan hero Francisco Solano López and Elisa Alicia Lynch, who was his concubine until 1870. Corina departed this earthly world on February 14, 1857, due to infectious bronchitis.
