The snow leopard (Panthera uncia), often described as one of the world's most mysterious and fascinating big cats, inhabits the remote mountain ranges of Central and South Asia. With its impressive appearance and behavior, this animal remains a source of admiration and study for scientists and animal lovers worldwide.

Difference Between Snow Leopard and Snow Leopard

The terms snow leopard and snow leopard are often used interchangeably and refer to the same animal: Panthera uncia. There is no difference between the two; they are synonyms. Snow leopard is the more common term in Dutch, while snow leopard is sometimes used, especially in older literature.

External features

The snow leopard is immediately recognisable by its thick, grey-white coat covered with black rosettes and spots. This coat offers excellent camouflage in its rocky, snowy habitat. Their tails are particularly long and thick, often used for balance and as a warm blanket while resting. Adult snow leopards range in length from 1 to 13 meters, excluding the tail, which can add another 80 to 100 cm. They weigh between 27 and 55 kg, with males generally larger than females.
